'The Legend of 1900' is this super cool period film that I found on my netflix instant play because I was looking for some Tim Roth movies.
Aaaaaaaaaand.....it was beautiful.
The kind of beautiful that makes you cry, not because it was so sad, but because it was so beautiful.
And it's about music.
It was gorgeous.
Do yourself a favour and watch it. It's on instant play, so it's not like it's difficult to get to.

Cuttin' the hairs
Iiiiiii'm gettin' my hair cut today.
No, not an "actual" hair cut, just a trim, but I'm going to a salon in the mall that I've never been to, so.......that'll be interesting.
I really don't like going to the mall by myself.
I feel really conspicuous, exposed, and vulnerable.
BOO!
But, that's what I'm going to do.
I MAY even spend some money on something FUN!
*gasp*
I know, it's been a while.
I haz no money.
Ridin' the bus and trying not to buy groceries.
Living in an apartment with no lights on.
lol.
Whatevs.

An update
Hi all!
Long time, no update. =D
So here it is.
My first chorus job at Minnesota Opera is over, and it was wonderful.
The other chorus members were fabulous and I think I've made some new friends! (woot!)
Also, the production staff was fabulous and a joy to work with.

In other news, I have been completely consumed by preparation for Young Artist Program auditions.
The application process is costly and time consuming (in that each program requires about a $20 to $35 application fee, and then you have to mail headshots, resumes, cds [cost of making recordings!] and fill out pages of applications).
But, I'm applying for about 10 programs for this summer and am really excited about the possibilities.
I'm working incredibly hard on preparing my 5 Arias and making sure that the pronunciation and execution are perfect.
Everything has to be perfect for me to get into one of these programs.
I'm trying for things that are a little harder this year....Programs that pay me, instead of me paying them, so it's a challenge.
In any case, the preparation continues!

Reality is creeping into my carefully constructed world view
During the month of August I incurred more expenses than I am used to.
I was paying for two voice lessons a week, taking care of extra installation things which my roomie will pay me for when she comes, and renewing subscriptions to singer magazines which provide me with audition info....
All told I incurred about $400 in extra expenses.
.......All on top of the carefully nickeled and dimed budget which I normally live upon.
The result?
I am LOW right now.
I literally have about $20 to my name.
Also, my parents who usually provide substantial monentary sustenance in times like these......are not goin' for it with their usual gusto. And who can blame them since they already paid my car payment for the month (another sum $233 I did not include in the total extra expenses listed above), which I was not able to pay.
They are weaning me from their checking teat. (yes, I did just make that analogy. Live with it.)
So, the only word I can really use to describe this situation is...
Uh, shit.
Next year the parental assistance stops altogether, and after this month....I am completely scared shitless about this eventuality.
How will I EVER be able to pay my way through the world?
*shakes head in abject despair*
I'm probably going to stay in Minneapolis for another year and study.
The plan is to get a job to support myself....
How?
Everyone is being fired.
Everyone.
No one is hiring.

The NOTHING!
So....
Sort of the theme of this summer, and what will probably be the theme of the coming year is, "What am I going to do next year!?"
There are several options and I just honestly don't know what to do with myself.
1) Audition for resident artist programs.
- The problem with this option is that I'm too young. I'm probably not going to get into anything at this level. Bag says to wait and see where the voice is at the end of the year, but unfortunately I think she is forgetting that Res. Art. programs hold auditions in NOVEMBER and it will be just a feeeeewwww months too late before we know if I'm ready for them. I will do a summer program however.
2) Get a Doctorate
- Everyone has told me not too. Performers are telling me it's not worth it unless you want to teach voice at a college level (which is not my goal), and the people who hire performers are telling me that it's considered a parking lot for vocalists. Soo....I guess that's a no.
3) Go back to Iowa and take the classes needed to be a certified teacher there
- Not so that I can teach right now, but so that I can teach someday. Knowing me, at some point I am going to want to settle down. I like having a home and a routine. Teaching drama at a high school would be a real possibility in the future. But....Bag says no. I need to keep studying and working towards my career.
4) Get a regular job in a shop or something in Minneapolis and study with Bag for another year
- I feel like I should keep studying.....But I just hate the idea of working a monotonous job in a store and making little to no money. Not to mention those darn student loans which are going to bite me in the bum as soon as I graduate. However, this is looking like the most likely option at this point. Oy.
5) Go somewhere to finish my bachelors in theatre
- As much as I would love to, this is pretty much a non-option. I don't have the money to keep going to school. My parents aren't going to pay for me to keep going to school. I would love to have the degree, I think in the future when the time comes to teach, I will wish I had the degree; I just don't see how it's possible. The money just isn't there.
So..........................
This is the giant question looming before me.
The proverbial Neverending Story 'Nothing' is awaiting me in May, waiting to rip trees out by their roots and exterminate Rock Biters before my eyes.
*drops head on desk*
*incoherent noise*

Argh.
Ok.
I don't know if I'm gonna make it this week.
I really don't know if I can stand another week of broccoli, meat, fruit, and cheese.
It's been one day.
One day into week 3 and I am goin' nuts.
I did my running (which I hate) at my chicken for dinner and....
I basically had to force it down.
And it was GOOD chicken.
I just can't eat this much meat.
I'm getting sick of it.
Ack.
It's gonna be like that time in middle school when I ate nothing but yogurt and baby carrots for several months and haven't really been able to eat yogurt since.
I'm gonna keep trying.
But.....I just don't know how long I'm gonna last.
It's gonna be one HUGE weight off my shoulders when I'm finally done with this crap.
The balloon is getting bigger and soon it's gonna pop.

CAKE BOSS
I thought I would share with all of you my obsession of about a year now; an obsession which has reached epic proportions.
'Cake Boss' on TLC.
This show is seriously addicting.
It's this huge incredibly Italian family in New Jersey who own a bakery.
The bakery is owned by Buddy.
He's 'da boss'.
Every episode they make these gigantic and fantastical cakes for all sorts of occasions.
Buddy's crazily Italian sisters run the upstairs and generally take a few minutes out of their day to run down and harass Buddy about something.
The guys in the downstairs baking/decorating area play a prank or two and have some laughs.
And some FANTASTIC cakes get made.
It's the personalities that make the show.
They're just so......ITALIAN!
It's hilarious.
I cannot explain my obsession, except to say that you should watch.
And learn.
And love.
=D
In conclusion, my interest in 'Cake Boss', 'Challenge', and 'Cupcake Wars' have got me thinking about cake and cupcake decorating.
This is going to be a thing.
I've already got some materials together and my first experiment takes place this coming weekend.

Work it out.
It has been two weeks since my last carbohydrate.
Normally that's how one gets 'back on the carb-less' wagon; two weeks of no carbs at all to jump start the system, then back to tiny bits of low carb stuff, then introduce the whole grains so that one may live like a vaguely normal person.
I've decided to go another week.
That's three weeks.
No carbs.
Every night I do ab exercises on the exercise ball, and then use my weights.
Today I started running again.
....I really hate running.
.............and I really hate having no carbs.
But I'm doing it.
So THERE universe!
You do not control me!
Didn't see THIS comin' did ya?
Week 3!
Let's do this thing.

Opening Night!
Opening night for 'Carmen' is now officially over!
The show went great with the exception of a few orchestra/singer syncronization issues due to the thunderstorm during the first act.
However, the thunderstorm stopped thunderstorming and also managed to cool off the area so that it was quite pleasant in our little outdoor theatre for the remainder of the show.
Also...the bat that was flying around during the Act III finale. lol. He was just chillin' around the stage while we were singing. Good times.
I'm quite proud of us. =D
GO TEAM CARMEN!
My next peformance is on the 30th of June.
when my PARENTS will be here!!! Huzzah!
Eventually I will get some pictures of me in costume and will (should internet allow) post them here.
I also perform closing night in Carmen, so if you're thinking about driving down to the big AR anytime soon, check out the Opera in the Ozarks website for tickets. There are about a million hotels in Eureka Springs and nearby Rogers so lodging is easy to find. =D

New Template....silly peer pressure.
So....
Everyone else was changing their templates.
So I felt inclined to do so as well.
Peer pressure is a terrible thing.
...Unless it leads you to make an awesome template on a night when the internet is MIRACULOUSLY working at a semi-normal speed!

But...Now it is late and I am going to bed.
There is the possibility of a trip to the nearby metropolis of Rogers tomorrow, and I must rest if I wish to be an effective shopper.

Then there is of course that 7 - ?? rehearsal tomorrow night followed by a big set change over.
But I'm focusing on the shopping for now.

Most of my days are made up of free time.
So much time.
So....nothing to do.
Also, no internet or televison.
I've read 7 books, (two just today) and I'm starting to get burnt out on them.
Also, there isn't really anywhere on campus one can go and let off steam.
ie. Sing loudly to broadway tunes, dance, do anything energizing, etc.
So...I read.
A lot.
*drops head on table*
Argh.

Balance and Hair pulling
Today we went to the lake.
I laid out for an hour and a half without sunscreen.
Did I tan, you may ask?
No. Not really.
I got a titch (literally, a titch) of colour, and a sunburnt right thigh.
*rolls eyes*
Skin? Why you gotta be like that?
*growls*
Anyway.
Stage Combat was AWESOME today!!!
We had to do all of these balance excercises with a partner where we lean back, and sit down, and balance each other on our backs, etc.
Which was ca-ray-zee!
Then we got to the good stuff.
Slapping, punching, hair pulling, choking.
It was awesome.
Way fun. =D =D =D
The boys are hilarious.
Especially the ones who act with you when you're practicing.
I'm all, "Ooh! Ooh! What if you choke me down to the ground, and then come behind and drag me by my hair over there?!"
And before you know it I'm 'gasping' on the ground as they gloat in triumph and drag my sorry bum screaching to the other side of the room. Haha.
Good times.
I loves it.
That's about all I've got for now.
Leroy the Scorpian is hanging on the wall outside of our curtain (no doors in these dorms), keeping watch over us like our own Arkansian version of Tinker Bell.
I'm off to Tosca staging for the 'Te Deum' (which is pretty awesome, I must say).
I am a townsperson.
I have decided that if the director asks me what I am praying for in the background I will say/sing, "I ask for wealth! I ask for faaaame! I ask for glory to shine on my naaaame!"

And I'm missin' youuuuuuuuuu
I miss my interwebs.
Here I have them....But they are very slow and do not allow for anything aside from the occasional e-mail and blog post.

I miss Doctor Who.
I want to watch the new episodes...But I can't. Because of the interwebs.
*growls*
It's very frustrating.
You don't realize how much you depend upon your internet until you are virtually without it.
Anyway.
In other news.
We've started staging the shows.
They're lookin' great.
The director for Carmen is quite fabulous and we've been having a pretty great time thus far.
Tonight we were blocking the large chorus scenes in Carmen and he introduced a pretty cool concept called 'Chorus tag'.
The chorus plays tag while they are on stage.
However, they're movements must be motivated (and in character) and there are no tag backs.
This inspires chorus members to move around more and cross to people, when they would normally stand in a corner and sing.
What a great idea!
As of today I have my first bug bites of the season. Booooooo!
Also, I realized that I had forgotton to bring cortozone or benadryl for my itchies.
..Something I will have to rectify the next time I have enough time to traverse the wilderness to a store.
Hmmm....What else?
* I have started and finished 3 books in my time here. I think I'm going to run out soon!
* There was a black bear spotted on the trail we walk on and we were told to stay away for a while. Eep!
* Mom and Dad sent me a care package with (among other things) a scorpion encased in glass and on an necklace. Ha. Ha. I have named him Leroy.
* There is a fantastical and marvelous mall in Rogers, a metropolis only a mere 30 - 40 min. away! We had just enough time to check it out the other day. YAYAYAYAY!!! Perfection.
* Tomorrow some of us are going to the lake for a little bit. I haven't been yet. Quite excited. Hopefully I will tan somewhat so I'm not the 'Celtic Gypsy' in Carmen. You know, that little known character who emmigrated from the land of pale people only to find herself in the mountains of Spain speaking french with a bunch of smugglers!

Still quite homesick. Every morning and night especially.
The mornings are the worst though. =(
And there will be so little time when I get back....
It is a sadness that weighs on me daily.
However, enough of that.

Scoripions, tarantulas, and bears! Oh my!
There are a lot of spiders out here.
Sort of all over the place.
Thankfully not really in the dorms...But definately in the practice cabins.
We have come to an agreement, these spiders and I.
They stay on the upper half of the wall where I can see them (and where they are too high to step on) and I won't kill them.
They venture onto the ground which is my domain, and they die.
Today in a cabin containing about 6 spiders (that I could see), three of them died.
Let this be a lesson to them.
In other news, there is a paved country road near by the campus which is very hilly (lovely steep mountain hills), but leads to some beautiful vistas of the ozarks.
Today I walked the path with some of the girls.
It was great.
It was also very hot.
*pants*
You're pretty good until you reach that last beast of a hill on the way back, then it's a rough slug up to the top and across the highway to the campus.
But it's GOOD FOR ME!
Also...I'll do most anything for a view. =D
Today was the first 'read through' of Carmen.
It went well.
We got as far as the Quintette and everyone sounded great.
PS. How much do I love that Quintette? A LOT! That's the thing about fast pieces, they're crap to learn, but once you've got the words you just sail through. Then they're a JOY!
YAY!
I can't wait to get on a stage though!

I miss my kitty.
I'm not worried about him. I know he's fine.
I just miss his furry little cuddly presence.

I also am feeling the keen sting of a lazy summer lost.
One can't help but mourn the days of mowing and rehearsing and watching crappy movies with the boys.
*sigh*
Well, back to the grindstone.

Hey ya'll!
Hi everyone!
I don't know why the internet is suddenly working, but it IS!
So this is going to be a really quick post!
After 10hrs of driving, I made it to Opera in the Ozarks in Eureka Springs, AR.
The drive was pretty easy, mostly interstate.
The only difficult part was the last hour in the mountains.
SHARP CURVES!
NO GUARDRAILS!
TERRIFYING MOUNTINOUS DROPS!
eep!
Those roads were NUTS!
But, I'm here.
And the more we drive the roads, the easier it gets.
The campus is.....rustic.
But the theatre is pretty darn nice. =D
The dorms are really open, so everyone can hear everyone else when they talk.
General opinion seems to be that this is a blessing since it will discourage any sort of gossipiness. We all want to like each other all summer!
Speaking of which...The girls are great.
I've got a lot of good friends already from all over the US.
My roomate is from LA, I know girls from Oregon, NY, Georgia, Florida, and Mississippi. =D
Not to mention at least 5 other SAI members.
What up Fraternity sisters!?
The town of Eureka Springs is almost an exact replica of Galena.
Down to the brick facades and the photo place that takes pictures of you in western costumes. haha.
It's very cute.
The dangers of the mountains are very interesting.
For instance: Did you know that they have scorpians in Arkansas? And tarantulas?
I didn't!
But we have lavendar to keep the Scorpians out (it does. Look it up.) and the tarantulas are not poisonous.
The black bears however.....We're just gonna hope they keep their distance. lol.
The views here are amazing.
Just beautiful.
And if the internet ever decides to miraculously work again, I may try to upload some pictures!
Yes. We have very spotty wi-fi up here. Very spotty.
Generally it doesn't even let me read e-mails, but right now for some reason it is zooming along at a decent speed! So..HUZZAH!
We also don't have cable, but there happens to be one antenna hookup in the main office, and last night they let us take my tiny tv in there and watch the 'Greys Anatomy' season finale!
AHHH!!!
In any case, it's good to know that we can get tv if we need it. (Tony awards? What?)
The weather has been in turns stormy and cool.
Today is gorgeous, but we're waiting for the famed Arkansian heat to kick in. I'm sure it will before long.
Today is the first day of actualy rehearsals.
I haven't had mine yet, but I'm looking forward to it!

Broadway Commentary
Hello peeples!
Just thought I'd comment on some tidbits of broadway news.
Things that run through my head, but there are too many of them to say in facebook statuses...
Sooooo...here you go!
A short run down of things that I'm thinkin' about.
Daniel Radcliff to star in 'How to Succeed in Buisness without Really Trying' revival on Broadway
Ummm......really? Not so sure about that. Can he even sing? His speaking voice does not suggest a great singing voice. *worried* I mean, I feel like I can trust his instincts after he rocked 'Equis', but I'm just really incredulous about this whole 'musical' idea.
Hmmm....ok. I guess we'll find out.
But I worry for him.
'American Idiot'
Let's just....take a deep breath here and NOT go in this direction. Please Broadway? Please?
I mean, every now and then is fine. We can have a 'Rent'. But....Let's just go ahead and mark this as an 'exception' and not 'the rule'.

'American Idiot' is not eligable for best original score. Mwahahahaaa.... =D
Also, I'm really glad the committee has been meeting like, every 2 weeks to make important decisions like the one above, but can we please make an announcement about the biggest decision of them all? The HOST!?
Let us all take a moment in prayer, and ask the Lord to make Neil Patrick Harris the host of the Tony awards. Or at least...if it's not Neil, please bring Hugh Jackman back. Amen.

I was incredulous about Sean Hayes in the lead role. Then I saw some clips of him performing and....it wasn't very good. Then the reviews came out. It seems Ben Brantley of the New York Times agrees with me. *cringe*
Sad day. Especially since this musical is so adorable and awesome. =(
'Rent' at the Hollywood Bowl : Neil Patrick Harris directs
And he cast Vanessa Hudgens as Mimi.
What. Was. He. Thinking!?!?!??!?!!
Oy.
Maybe she'll surprise us all and develope acting/singing skills before the first performance.
On the bright side, he has also cast Wayne Brady, who is ca-ray-zee talented. Maybe some of it will rub off on Vanessa.
Ok. That's about all you're getting from me on the subject.

Today I ran 2 miles in 20 minutes.
And the best thing is that it wasn't even that bad.
I was fine.
I wasn't super winded or anything.
I felt like it was just a normal run.

So. Much. Music.
I have a lot of music to learn.
I have a CRAP TON of music to study for my Baroque final in 2 (3?) weeks. Which I need to start studying for NOW because it's that horrible. (Think somwhere in the vincinity of 8hrs of music?)
I cannot communicate to you all the terrifying awfull distilled hell that is a test in that Baroque class. I have never in all my years of Academia experienced something this horrible.
She's one of those teachers that thinks a 'C' is doing 'really good'. So she builds the class around the expectation of all the good students getting Cs.
NO, I say, NO!
That is WRONG!
That is NOT the way to arrange a class!
NOT. ACCEPTABLE.
Anyway.
There's nothing I can do about it, and soon it will be done forever.
So...yay!
I have a lot of music to learn for juries, and opera workshop auditions, and Minnesota Opera Chorus auditions....
And it seems like I'm getting new music every week.
Which I have to memorize almost instantiously.
and -
I MUST memorize my music for Ozarks.
That has to be done in the next two weeks.
MUST be done.

Not to mention everything else that continues to go on around me.

Engaging panic mode.
*runs around with muppet arms flailing*

Glee slushie to the face
Hello all!
So.......This week has been rough so far.
And it's only Tuesday night.
My vocal technique isn't where it should be.
Which is unbelievably frustrating to me.
I can't seem to get my DAMN voice to do what I want it to do! (pardon my french)
And Bag keeps telling me that the voice simply has to sit. It just has to!
I. am. trying.
I am trying so hard.
And I am so fed up with myself.
Why can't I do this?!
Why won't my stupid throat muscles retain anything?!?!
I feel like I try and try so hard at everything and it's all coming out shoddy.
*sigh*
I just would like to feel like I'm good at something again.
Some positive reinforcement would be awesome about now.
*sigh*

I've never had 'running' shoes specifically, I've always just excercised in regular tennis shoes and I must say, it makes all the difference in the world.

Hola!
Hola everyone!
Check out the new blog colours!
Spring is here and I wasn't so much feelin' the black anymore. =D
After a week of rain and cold, the sun is shining here in the Mini-Apple.
I've got a new chiropractor (who is sooooooooo handsome. Epic win.)
And I'm going to get myself some cool Nike's and go jogging!
Housing plans are coming together for next year, and tonight I'm going to eat pizza and watch a movie with friends.
Also, I have decided that I really miss dancing, and am considering getting into some sort of intermediate jazz class at the U Fitness Center when I get back from the Ozarks.
So....yes.
Now, if I could just memorize my 8 tons of music, all would be well.
Pray that my brain will absorb music at superhuman speeds in the coming weeks-
-because it's gonna take an act of God!
So in the meantime, enjoy the weather!

The good, the bad, and the jogging
The Good
* Got into Opera in the Ozarks for the summer! It's a great program and I'm both excited and super nervous. *eeeee!*
* Got financial aid from OIO which is also great!
* Survived midterms. Just barely.
* The weather has been quite warm (50s! WOOT) and thanks to Daylight Savings time, the sun has been shining until about 7:30 every night. ROCK ON!
* Mom is coming to visit meeeeee! Mom time!!!! YES!!
* I got an awesome grade on my Ear-Training test. Which is sort of a miracle and completely amazing. =D =D
The Bad
* Waiting to get my grade for the Baroque Midterm....I'm pretty sure it was a massacre, I'm just not sure I'm ready go out on the field and count the dead. *gulp*
* Tired....A week of spring break and I am still oh so very tired.
* After the hellaciousness that was Midterms I find that I am completely unable to relax because I know what is coming for me. Oooooooh the hellfire awaits me at the end of the next five weeks.....*shudder*
The Jogging
* Because the sunlight is lasting longer, when I get home it seems like there is so much more day left! Also, the weather has been great and Christy has been going jogging recently so.....
I'm thinking about jogging.
I hate jogging.
But it's really good for me! And I need to lose some weight if I expect to get into 'West Side Story' next year....
But I still hate it. *sets teeth*
It's also really embarassing. Mostly because you only ever see fit people running. I don't know where the chubby girls are hiding, but they are not outside.
I don't want to go out there and expose myself to ridicule by jiggling my wobbly bits all over the place; and let me assure you, anything above a swift stride and the jiggling reaches epic proportions.
Oy.
I don't know.
I probably won't.

I've got a ton of stuff to do, and less time to do it in so.....

Best movie description ever
I tivoed an Esther Williams and Howard Keel movie.
Esther Williams was the swimming star at MGM.
Howard Keel was a musical star.
Additionally it starred Marge and Gower Champion, ballroom dancing team.
It was called 'Jupiter's Darling'.

Memo from God
Today God spoke to me through a music video.
I was having a super frustrating day.
My voice wasn't sitting.
At.
All.
I was being plagued by the French language again. (DEVIL LANGUAGE!)
And I felt like giving up.
I drove home trying not to cry.
Then on a whim I decided to youtube the new OK Go video.
Both Craig Ferguson and Josh Groban had mentioned it on twitter, so I typed in OK Go, let the search bar fill in the title of the song for me....
And then God sent me a gift.
A little note with a happy tune and marching bands...
And a message. Spelled out in cardboard squares.
...And I cried.
Because it's gonna be ok.
Thanks God.

Midterms
I have the most insane Midterms of all time coming up next week.
This week I am trying to prepare for them.
There is not enough time.
Not nearly enough time.
I'm at school all day, working and going to class.
I come home.
I try to do a little of each thing.
I sleep.
I start all over again.
Rather than getting anything fully done.
I'm getting everything not quite done.
*face plant*
I am currently maintaining a outward appearance of calm over my barely conceled panic.
It helps.
If I were to just flat out panic, it would be very hard to stop.

Opinions
Lots of people have opinions.
Most of them based on personal experiences.
I like to share opinions and discuss.
By doing so, one's opinions will either be challenged and changed, or strengthened.
When I discuss something that is a 'hot topic', I understand that most people will have already formed their opinions.
I will put mine forth openly, but I dont' expect you to necessarily agree with me.
And that is ok.
You are entitled.
It doesn't make you any less.
It doesn't make you stupid.
It doesn't mean you're ignorant or close-minded.
It just means that your life experiences have led you to think about things differently than I.
What gets my goat is when people react in the opposite manner.
You don't agree with me and therefore you are stupid, uninformed, close-minded, etc.
When it comes to certain things, we have to live and let live my friends.
Understand that other people are just that. OTHER PEOPLE.
They don't have to agree with you, and you don't have to agree with them.
It's good for us to open our ears and listen to others, try to understand where they are coming from.
But it is NOT good to try and force our opinions on others, or to discount their ideas. By doing so, WE become the close minded ones.
Listen to another person's opinion today.
Don't get angry.
Don't yell.
Just look at them and understand that whatever you may say, however eloquently you may argue your point, however right you think you are...
They may not now, or ever, agree with you.
And that is ok.

Kitteh
It's been awhile, so here's a little update on my lovable, handsome, cuddly kitteh Pippin. =D
He can't really see up to the top of my shelves...But somehow I'm sure he's figured out that there's a fish up there. Poor Spartacus...The kitteh is stalking him. *gulp*
Every day. Every where. This is how he greets us. Walk in the door? *plop* Changing clothes? *plop* Making dinner? *plop* lol. He's a plopper.
He is the kitteh of a Vocal Major. Yes he is.
I had my feet up on my desk while doing homework and he layed down next to them. Because he loves me. =D

Puttin' on the Ritz
I just got back from seeing the 'Young Frankenstein' musical at the Orpheum and I must say....
It.
Was.
FABULOUS!!!
I will admit that the show itself has some flaws (I totally understand what the NY critics were grousing about), but the hilarity makes up for it (also acknowledged by the critics).
There were some NY cast members in the tour including
Tony Winner Roger Bart
and
Tony Winner Shuler Hensley
BAAHHHHH!!!!
Tony winners.
Right before my very eyes.
Mere feet from me.
With their golden Tony glow all about them.....
The show was hilarious people.
Especially Cory English who played Igor.
He was definately a scene stealer.
Every time he was on the stage I was watching him because he kept doing RANDOM stuff!
Another great part about the show?
Roger Bart (Frankenstein) and Cory English (Igor) kept cracking each other up.
They kept going into these bits that were obviously improvised, making stuff up and laughing.
At one point, this bit kept going for a really long time where Frankenstein comments on Igor's hump and he says, "What hump?"
"You really don't know what I'm talking about?"
"I don't know what you're talking about."
"You really don't know what I'm talking about?"
"No. No. What are you talking about?"
"You really don't know what I'm talking about?"
etc.
This went through several variations (you don't know what I'm saying? you don't know what I'm inferring, etc.) for about 3 minutes, with both actors obviously trying not to crack before Roger Bart just goes, "Ahhhhh f***k it."
and turns round to continue the scene.
I about died.
omg.
Love.
So....In conclusion:
Definately not for kids. There was a lot of not very subtle sexual innuendo (and blatant referencing)
Hilarious for adults. Especially for adults that like Mel Brooks.
LOTS of pyro-technics. I about went blind a few times from the strobes. lol.
LOTS of fun. =D =D =D
*sigh*
I wonder if anyone has ever wanted anything as much as I want to be in musical theatre.....

Songs I'm Dying to Sing
Hi everyone!
The semester is sort of coming into its' own right now and my repertoir list is piling up.
Barbara said I could have two musical theatre songs (which she hasn't given me yet) so my mind is awhirl with possibilities!
Also, I just bought the 'Barbara Cook's Broadway' CD and am even more excited about the options. You see, Barbara Cook does not allow herself to be limited by gender; if she likes a song, she'll just change a word here or there and sing it.
And you know what?
*hands on hips*
Why the heck not?
So....Without any sort of unifying theme, here is a list of songs I would/do love to sing.
Some of them I have, some of them I haven't; but maybe someday I'll get my own cabaret show and you can all come to Feinsteins or the Chatterbox (I love you Seth Rudetsky!) and hear me sing a few. =D
If I Didn't Believe in You (The Last Five Years)
This is one of the songs I have performed, and I love it every time. This was my first real Jason Robert Brown experience; I heard it on broadway XM and my heart just broke into a million pieces. From that day on, JRB was the voice of my heart. Truly one of the most passionate and gratifying songs I can imagine singing.
Hurry, It's Lovely Up Here (On a Clear Day, You Can See Forever)
Known amongst a select few as 'the happy song', this is just one of the most joyful songs I know. Happiness abounds as the character entreats the flowers to grow using one silly rhyme after another. My favourite line? "Come Rhododend-, courage little friend! Everything will end Rhodo-dandy." Seriously. Any excuse to say 'Rhodo-dandy', and I bubble. =D
My Stupid Mouth (by John Mayer as arrag. for Audra McDonald)
This song speaks to me. Mostly because I'm always embarassing myself. Thank you Audra for having this arranged for a girl.
Finishing the Hat (Sunday in the Park With George)
I don't know if it would ever be possible to alter the lyrics enough for a woman, but I this song speaks so much to what it means to be an artist; "Finishing the hat. How you have to finish the hat. How you watch the rest of the world from a window, while you finish the hat." The melody soars over and over again.
Fable (The Light in the Piazza)
I have sung this one before, and the lyrics are some of the most beautiful I've ever heard. They shimmer with imagery, singing this song is like....standing in a shower of swarosky crystals. The Fairy tale aspect appeals to my imagination as well, it reminds me of childhood glory and Neverending story.
Losing My Mind (Song and Dance)
Sondheim again. Nobody will ever let me sing it though, because it's so repetative! It's not repetative people, it builds in tension. It builds and builds with obsession, that's why the character thinks they're 'losing their mind'. Once again. Passionpassionpassion....*love*
Molasses to Rum (1776)
Another guy song; but it. is. gorgeous. This song is so sensual and hot and dark. It's full of wrath and rage......*basks* soooooo gooooooooooddddd.....
Meadowlark (The Baker's Wife)
Another song with gorgeous imagry. This is one of Patti Lupone's signature songs, so it's traditionally heard with alot of belt, but I really don't think it's necessary. It's passionate, certainly, but it feels to me like there is a certain fragility as well and in my opinion; a belt is not required.
Lovely Lonely Man (Chitty-Chitty Bang-Bang)
This song is so simple, and vulnerable. It was cut from the film, but it's on the soundtrack and is sung by Truly after the day on the beach. There is something completely charming and disarming about this sort of openness. It doesn't hurt that the melody is beautiful as well. The simple tune of a simple love.
Hold My Hand (by Jeff Blumenkrantz)
I posted the lyrics to this song a while ago, and I am absolutely in love with it. My single heart beats in sympathy with the lyrics. I don't need someone to buy me roses or take me out to fancy dinners; just someone to hold my hand. (ps. You should all go download Jeff's podcast for free on itunes, because he is wonderful, his music is wonderful, and I heart him)
Franklin Shepherd Inc. (Merrily We Roll Along)
Show-stopping patter song from Sondheim. For a man? Yes. Do I care? Absolutely not. I love patter songs (I did 'Getting Married Today' in a recital), and nobody does it like Sondheim: God of lyrics. It doesn't hurt that this one also covers a dizzying array of emotions. So. Much. FUN!
I Chose Right (Baby)
Super cute. Adorable and romantic. So simple and truthful and beautiful. Lovely.
I'm Way Ahead (Seesaw)
Ok......I know...It's a belter song, and I am soooooo not a belter. But that doesn't stop me from loving this. The whole song is like an emotional scream. She basically has a breakdown. *flutters eyes* An actor's dream!!!

If Only: Quartet (Broadways The Little Mermaid)
Gorgeous. Absolutely gorgeous. Alan Menken once again rockin' my world. Trident, Sebastian, Ariel, and Eric all pondering 'if only...'. In my opinion, now the best song in the whole score.
Sign (Annie)
I don't know why I find this so hilarious. But I do. Miss Hannigan and Daddy Warbucks, as he tries to get her to sign the adoption papers and she tries to seduce him into taking her to *ahem* 'Bonus eye-reez'. Bwhahahahaa.
All the Wasted Time (Parade)
Super intense. Super gorgeous. This is one of the most starting songs I've ever listened too, and I couldn't tell you why. Just that I was on the edge of my seat the first time I heard it. Pretty sure it has something to do with the beautifully placed modulations. JRB strikes again.
I'd Give it All for You (Songs for a New World)
Simple duet. Very simple in emotion. But the lyrics are touching and there's so much that you could do with it acting wise. I've had dreams about staging this one!
The I Love You Song (25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee)
I want to sing the Mom part, and I want to sing it now! The harmonies in this are SO tight and SO hardcore. It just takes your breath away.
You'll Think of Someone (Promises, Promises)
Super cute. She keeps trying to get him to ask her out and he's just too shy. ADORABLE. Also, super catchy. Just a happy little hummable tune. =D
I Like Your Style (Barnum)
Bouncy. Fun. Not too difficult, but catchy and a good time. A married couple sings about how they are complete opposites and shouldn't possibly work together, except....they like each others' style.

Another guy song; but it. is. gorgeous. This song is so sensual and hot and dark. It's full of wrath and rage......*basks* soooooo gooooooooooddddd.....
Meadowlark (The Baker's Wife)
Another song with gorgeous imagry. This is one of Patti Lupone's signature songs, so it's traditionally heard with alot of belt, but I really don't think it's necessary. It's passionate, certainly, but it feels to me like there is a certain fragility as well and in my opinion; a belt is not required.
Lovely Lonely Man (Chitty-Chitty Bang-Bang)
This song is so simple, and vulnerable. It was cut from the film, but it's on the soundtrack and is sung by Truly after the day on the beach. There is something completely charming and disarming about this sort of openness. It doesn't hurt that the melody is beautiful as well. The simple tune of a simple love.
Hold My Hand (by Jeff Blumenkrantz)
I posted the lyrics to this song a while ago, and I am absolutely in love with it. My single heart beats in sympathy with the lyrics. I don't need someone to buy me roses or take me out to fancy dinners; just someone to hold my hand. (ps. You should all go download Jeff's podcast for free on itunes, because he is wonderful, his music is wonderful, and I heart him)

Show-stopping patter song from Sondheim. For a man? Yes. Do I care? Absolutely not. I love patter songs (I did 'Getting Married Today' in a recital), and nobody does it like Sondheim: God of lyrics. It doesn't hurt that this one also covers a dizzying array of emotions. So. Much. FUN!

Super cute. Adorable and romantic. So simple and truthful and beautiful. Lovely.

Ok......I know...It's a belter song, and I am soooooo not a belter. But that doesn't stop me from loving this. The whole song is like an emotional scream. She basically has a breakdown. *flutters eyes* An actor's dream!!!

Gorgeous. Absolutely gorgeous. Alan Menken once again rockin' my world. Trident, Sebastian, Ariel, and Eric all pondering 'if only...'. In my opinion, now the best song in the whole score.

I don't know why I find this so hilarious. But I do. Miss Hannigan and Daddy Warbucks, as he tries to get her to sign the adoption papers and she tries to seduce him into taking her to *ahem* 'Bonus eye-reez'. Bwhahahahaa.
All the Wasted Time (Parade)
Super intense. Super gorgeous. This is one of the most starting songs I've ever listened too, and I couldn't tell you why. Just that I was on the edge of my seat the first time I heard it. Pretty sure it has something to do with the beautifully placed modulations. JRB strikes again.
I'd Give it All for You (Songs for a New World)
Simple duet. Very simple in emotion. But the lyrics are touching and there's so much that you could do with it acting wise. I've had dreams about staging this one!
The I Love You Song (25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee)
I want to sing the Mom part, and I want to sing it now! The harmonies in this are SO tight and SO hardcore. It just takes your breath away.
You'll Think of Someone (Promises, Promises)
Super cute. She keeps trying to get him to ask her out and he's just too shy. ADORABLE. Also, super catchy. Just a happy little hummable tune. =D
I Like Your Style (Barnum)
Bouncy. Fun. Not too difficult, but catchy and a good time. A married couple sings about how they are complete opposites and shouldn't possibly work together, except....they like each others' style.

Pleeeeease release me! Let me gooooooo!
No snowdays.
Ever.
No snowdays, no cancelled classes, no variation in a limited routine......
Winter is getting to me.
It's not like winter in the country where a good portion of the snow stays white and clean.
Here, no snow remains unscathed.
Immediately it hits the ground and turns to dirty slush.
Which mingles with last weeks' dirty slush.
Creating big grey mounds of dirty slush.
It's like a prison.
Giant grey buildings with giant grey piles of slush.
*Drops bangs in front of face*
EEEEEEEEMMMMOOOOOOOOO!!!
I know.
*sprays her bangs hot pink and black*
I'm going there.
This winter is making me Emo.
*face plant*

Tending the sick
I am sick.
Quite sick.
It is also quite yucky (as you might infer).
As a vocalist, this sort of thing is highly intrusive and disruptive to the daily routine.
Do we have a few tricks up our sleeves? Some.
Is it mostly just a combination of every trick ever? Yes!
The tools of the trade are as follows
Humidifier: Preferrably one that steams or mists. By your face. All the time.
Dayquil & Nyquil: Taken as often as the box will allow. Every 4hrs should do it.
Vitamins: Currently I am taking twice a day a multivitamin, vitamin c, vitamin d, and zinc.
Tea: Throat coat with honey.
Cough drops: Even if you're not coughing, they'll sooth the savage throat. =D
Ice Pack: An ice pack on my neck sooths both my headaches, and the fever. 'Little Women' teaches us that we can draw the fever away from the head using ice packs up top and keeping the feet warm. I don't know if this is true...But it made me feel better in any case. Also...I guess it didn't really work in 'Little Women' as Beth died anyway. Um...yeah.
Chloraseptic: When the cough drops just aren't doin' it, turn to the throat spray. Numbnumbnumb...
Nettie Pot: This lovely little contraption is available at your local Target. It's a little plastic tea pot lookin' thing that you fill with water, and then mix in a packet of baking soda, salt, and I don't know what (the packets come in the box). You tilt your head parallell to the floor, and (bear with me now) poor the concoction through one nostril, where it will flood your nasal passages and come out the other side. Flip and do the other nostril. It's pretty disgusting to watch (and experience) but it does a good job of flushing the stuff out of your head and down the sink.
Tissues: A lot of them. Oy...so many.......
Now go forth! And fight thy illnesses!

I would like to introduce you all to Darren Criss.
He is awesome.
Some of you may be familiar with Darren from his work as Harry Potter in 'A Very Potter Musical' (named by Entertainment Weekly as one of the top 10 viral videos of 2009).
Or you might know him from a small recurring role he had on the show 'Eastwick' (now sadly cancelled...=(
But if you don't know him yet...
You WILL!
Because 'A Very Potter Musical' is catchy, smart, funny, well-written, and well-acted.
